CONCEPT OF MOMENT OF INERTIA # SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLES BEHIND SPORTS
Dear Students, Moment of inertia of an object is an indication of the level of force that has to be applied in order to set the object, or keep the object, in motion about a defined axis of rotation. Moment of inertia depends on distribution of mass around the object. Higher moments of inertia indicate that more force has to be applied in order to cause a rotation whereas lower moments of inertia means that only low forces are necessary. Moment of Inertia is of much importance in Sports. A teaching aid that explains how moment of inertia is applied to sporting events is developed.
